SIGGRAPH 2010 Art Papers and Art Gallery
To be featured in a special issue of Leonardo published in conjunction with the SIGGRAPH 2010 conference.
SIGGRAPH 2010 Art Papers
SIGGRAPH 2010, in collaboration with Leonardo/ISAST, honors not only artists and artwork, but also the process of making art and its place in society. We seek papers that illuminate and explore how people understand the changing roles of artists and art-making in our increasingly networked, multi-sensory, online world.
In addition to the core topics of the digital arts and interactive techniques of SIGGRAPH 2010, Art Papers will explore the theme of SIGGRAPH 2010’s juried art gallery, "TouchPoint: The Haptic Exchange Between Digits." Authors will present Art Papers in 20-minute sessions with five minutes of Q&A.
Papers can be submitted in four categories—Applications, Monograph, Project, or Survey —and accepted papers will be published in a special issue of Leonardo, Journal of the International Society of the Arts, Sciences and Technology. The issue also will include visual documentation of the works exhibited in the SIGGRAPH 2010 juried art gallery "TouchPoint: The Haptic Exchange Between Digits." Publication of this special issue of Leonardo will coincide with SIGGRAPH 2010.
The Art Papers online submission form will be available at http://www.siggraph.org/s2010/for_submitters/art_papers in October 2009. Submissions are due by 22:00 UTC/GMT, 7 January 2010.
Art papers will be evaluated by members of the Art Papers Advisory Board, the Art Papers Committee, and external reviewers. Once reviews are complete, the Advisory Board and Committee will meet to deliberate the final outcome of each paper. All decisions of the Advisory Board and Committee are final.

SIGGRAPH 2010 Art Gallery
SIGGRAPH is looking for exceptional works of art, completed in the last two years, by artists who physically engage technology in their creative process. Our aim is to gather a compelling and varied group of creative projects that relate to the SIGGRAPH 2010 Art Gallery theme: "TouchPoint: The Haptic Exchange Between Digits."
Art projects appropriate for the TouchPoint theme will likely reference one or more of the following areas of interest:
- User-involved touch in the experience, production, or creation of the work
- Unique physical interfaces used by the artist in the creation, generation, and/or manifestation of the work
- Experience design engaging multiple senses
- Kinesthetic intelligence and/or physical memory
- Haptics as the subject of the work, addressing physical relationships with others, with technology, or both.
All forms of digitally mediated work are eligible, as well as work made in traditional media that comments on technology. International projects, three-dimensional works and kinetic or interactive pieces are encouraged; if such works are selected, the gallery space will be designed to accommodate them.
Visual documentation of the works exhibited in the SIGGRAPH 2010 juried art gallery “TouchPoint: The Haptic Exchange Between Digits” will be published in a special issue of Leonardo, Journal of the International Society of the Arts, Sciences and Technology, along with the SIGGRAPH 2010 Art Papers. Publication of this special issue of Leonardo will coincide with SIGGRAPH 2010.
All work must be submitted using the TouchPoint Art Gallery online submission form, which will be available at http://www.siggraph.org/s2010/for_submitters/art_gallery in October 2009. Submissions are due by 22:00 UTC/GMT, 7 January 2009.
You may submit up to three projects; use a separate submission form for each project. Selections will be made by a panel of digital art experts according to the following criteria: overall impact of the work, relevance to the theme, quality of accompanying artist statement, creative use of media, and depth of critical exploration.
